POLICE investigating an incident which left a woman with a serious head injury say there is ‘no available evidence’ that an assault took place.

Officers have been investigating the ‘incident’ which was believed to have occurred outside an address in Priors Close, Christchurch, last year.

Dorset Police was alerted to the incident on Friday, December 29, when it was reported a woman was receiving treatment for a serious head injury in hospital.

A cordon was put in place at the Priors Close property while officers carried out their enquiries.

Police presence was also increased in the area over the days that followed.

One neighbour told the Daily Echo at the time: "We’re all so anxious, police won’t tell us what happened.

"Forensics were here all of yesterday."

A man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, but was released on police bail.

Police confirmed the arrested man and the woman were known to each other.

In an update given on Monday, Dorset Police said: “After a detailed investigation by detectives, there was no available evidence that an assault had taken place.

“The arrested man was released without charge and enquiries have now concluded.”
